BetonSports Sacks Arrested CEO
Filed in archive Betting on July 25, 2006
Its not been a good fortnight for David Carruthers - the now ex-CEO of battered online betting group, BetonSports.com. Having been arrested whilst en-route through the US from Costa Rica, BetonSports have now fired their CEO - claiming that since he wasn't available, he couldn't do his job.
David Carruthers was one of 12 people charged after being indicted for tax evasion, fraud and racketeering. The list includes Gary Kaplan, who still owns a chunk of the business. Its likely BetonSports have made this announcement to distance themselves from the US action. The company have had no contact with Carruthers since his arrest.
BETonSPORTS has complied with a US demand that it close its sports betting operations for US customers but has not commented on the charges.
It said Kaplan, also the subject of an arrest warrant from US authorities, had not been involved in managing the group since it was listed in London in 2004.
