is another American phenomenon that is less than appealing outside the country. However, whilst the rest of the world marvels at the riches and luxury of Formula One, the blue collar world of america faithfully watches the down n' dirty Nascar. Sports Illustrated have laid out some of the fascinating facts of NASCAR gambling - and some of the lesser-known fantasies. And whilst Americans can only legally bet on Nascar in Vegas, most online bookies offer odds on all the races
Some basic facts include
- Most Nascar bets are similar to golf and tennis - event winner and heads-up one on one
- Interestingly, Nascar has no ban on driver gambling. However, its almost impossible, due to the sheer number of external variables involved in the heavily populated races to fix a race
- Unlike F1 racing, the odds on favourites are surprisingly high - usually around the 5-1 range, whilst competitive drivers are available at 12-1 or higher. This is because of the number of drivers - and the number of times an outsider can and has won
The article also goes on to have some fun with Nascar betting - amusing itself with some of the more fanciful 'fantasies' and untruths such as the odds of someone falling asleep in the weekly meeting
