Its official.

Well, as much as one survey and a lot of rumours and suspiscion can be. But the Brits are spending their hard earned cash on betting - 1.5 bn on online gambling

The favourites are Football, lottery, horseracing, poker and casino sites - according to online finance site, Virgin Money - spending 10-20 per week and 40 in Scotland. Though unsurprisingly, Londoners are the biggest spenders.

A huge 93% of 2000 surveyed had said they'd tried out online gambling at least once and 50% said they started in the last 6 months - although this does include lotteries - of which the National Lottery is available online.

However, there is a split between the sexes. Men prefer a flutter on the football (soccer), as well as lotteries and casino games. However, most surprising is that women like to bet on the horses - which comes in second only to lotteries - a bet traditionally linked to men.

Online gamblers will also spend almost an hour a week betting online and an incredible 5% admit they bought a laptop or PC just so they could bet online - i guess at least it gets them online, so thats no bad thing
