Casino demands female employees to wear makeup - APPROVED
Filed in archive Casinos on April 15, 2006

The Federal Appeals court ruled on Friday that Harrah's Entertainment Inc. may require their female bartenders to wear make-up. Darlene Jespersen, fired back in 2000 for refusing to put on make-up for work took the casino company to court. Jespersen's lawyers attempted to argue that requiring female employees to wear make-up puts women at a financial disadvantage. Harrah's lawyers claimed that female employees had no extra burden as their male counterparts had to have regular haircuts and are not allowed to wear make-up. Chief Judge Mary M. Schroeder wrote for the majority:
This is not a case where the dress or appearance requirement is intended to be sexually provocative and tending to stereotype women as sex objects.
