
Each person in the Czech Republic spends CZK 10,000 (about $445) on gambling per year. Thats a CZK 1,000 increase from 2005 and a huge CZK 4,000 from 2000.
Whilst its not necessarily on a par with Brits or Spain, for an Central European country thats way above anyone else in the region and on a par with more advanced gambling countries.
Czechs also lose 4 times more than Americans – an average of CZK 3,000. 37% take part in lotteries or betting each week whilst more than 50% of them bet at least once a week
These figures only apply to legal lotteries and betting. Online gambling is still illegal in the Czech Republic. However, its assumed that about 4% of Czechs bet online.
Czech lottery organisers and betting companies received a record-high CZK 90.7 billion in 2005, 50 percent more than in 2000. They paid out CZK 69 billion to winners.
