Gambling debts of England soccer star?

Sir Alex Ferguson has dismissed claims that England super-star Wayne Rooney has amassed gambling debts of £700,000 ($1,220,000). It has been alleged that the 20 year-old footballer's debts have caused rifts in the England Camp
. The money is supposedly owed to a colleague of England teammate Michael Owen.
Let's put this alleged debt into perspective. As one of England's hottest players, Wayne earns an estimated £50,000 a week. That's around 100 times more than your average guy (or gal) so wouldn't Rooney's debt be something like £7000 for the man on the Clapham Omnibus? You could amass that kind of debt one lunchtime in a motorway services restaurant if you hadn't had breakfast that morning.
I hope the rumours aren't true though, we don't need any extra hassles with the World Cup coming up.
