Gambling NOT sexy - adverts to carry warnings
Filed in archive Gambling General by simon on April 24, 2006

Advertisements in the UK that promote gambling may have to carry warnings about the dangers of gamblings. The Department for Culture, Media and Sport and the Gambling Commission are behind the decision which is part of their "socially responsible gambling"
The advertising rules will be similar to those imposed on adverts promoting alcohol. Basically, you can't promote gambing as a good way to sort out debt problems or portray it as sexy and/or cool. Further, the actors and models used in promotions should be seen to be at least over 25 - apparently this will deter people 18-24 from wanting to gamble recklessly.
Obviously, this is a case of self-regulation nipping restrictions in the bud before more serious sanctions can be imposed.
