Gavin Griffin Wins EPT Championship
Filed in archive Poker on April 4, 2007
Dr. Pauly reports over at PokerNews that Gavin Griffin has wn the European Poker Tour Grand Finale Championship in Monte Carlo. The 26-year old US poker pro outlasted a field of 706 players to take down a top prize of 1.8 Million Euros. The tough final table included Hendon Mob European Stud Ram Vaswani and 2005 WSOP Main Event Final Tablist Andy Black.
Griffin became the youngest player to ever win a WSOP bracelet in 2004 at the age of 22, a feat since eclipsed by Eric Froelich and then Jeff Madsen, but has over $300,000 in lifetime winnings, a figure significantly inflated by this week's victory. He has recently focused a lot of his efforts on raising money for breast cancer research after his girlfriend survived the disease. Griffin has been raising money for the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer, and poker site Pokerstars.com set up a special method for poker players to help Griffin in his quest this week, creating a player called AvonDonate, where players can make a player-to-player transfer donation that will be matched by Pokerstars, with all the money going to Griffin's walk against breast cancer.
