1.3 billion euros in Austria
0.3 billion euros in Switzerland.
These are the latest figures coming out of the Dach region for online gambling and betting. The German figures are up 35% year-on-year.
Per head, Austrians spend more than 4 times as much as Germans and 5 times as much as the Swiss with 177 euros, 40 euros and 33 euros respectively
Naturally, the differences in numbers can be explained by the differences in regulations in each country
While all three countries have a ban on private gambling, Austrian law exempts betting from this ban. In addition, state providers can also offer gambling online in Austria, while this is only tolerated in exceptional cases in Germany and outlawed completely in Switzerland. More than half of the online gambling in Austria took place with state operators, who make up less than 20 percent of the market in Germany.
