Korea Argues the Case for Private Golf Betting

A judge's ruling that golf bets between players in private games should not be considered punishable is causing controversy online as 89% of those surveyed said they disagreed with the decision

The argument began when a judge dismissed a case against 4 men that had gambled over 1 billion korean won (over $1 million) on their golf games

The judge said

In gambling, luck plays a critical role to decide the game. In golf games, it is the players' competence, not luck, that decides the game

He compared the golf betting to professional sports tournaments where 'money' is won as prizes

The ruling went against a similar case in 2003 which said betting large amounts of money in golf is punishable by law
