Until a few years ago the Table Games in most casinos were grouped together in an area that came to be known as "the pit".
In fact many of these properties actually located their table games in a recessed or sunken area which explains why it came to be known as "the pit".
The large Las Vegas Strip casinos have now scattered the table games around although they are still located in the same general area. Smaller casinos still keep their table games bunched together, but regardless of the layout, any area that houses table games is still referred to as the pit.
So the person who oversees the action in the pit is known as the pit boss and this individual can wield considerable power.
Although the role of the pit boss and the extent of his or her authority can vary from casino to casino basically these people have the final say on everything in the pit.
Pit bosses can set limits on tables, authorize lines of credit, issue comps, and close down a game, for any reason.
To become a pit boss requires years of experience starting with being a dealer, and because of this pit bosses have seen just about everything, on both sides of the tables.
Now we have a former Las Vegas pit boss who has written a tell all book and he is sharing some tips to help gamblers improve their odds a bit in casinos.
