Luton, a town in or near Bedfordshire UK, is seeking permission to build a casino. The recently passed Gambling Act allows one regional casino, eight large and eight small. Luton wants a large one.
A large casino will create 800 jobs in the town, leading to an estimated 10% reduction in unemployment. The casino would offer 150 gaming machines with £4000 ($6958) maximum jackpots. Luton has good transport links with railway and airport.
Unsurprisingly, opposition to the casino has come from some Church groups.
