MGM Grand Detroit today announced that it will open its more than $800 million hotel and entertainment destination on October 2 raising Detroit's luxury hospitality offerings to unparalleled heights. Upon opening, MGM MIRAGE (NYSE:MGM) will have invested more than $1 billion into the community, demonstrating its commitment to the redevelopment of downtown Detroit and its intent to fuel economic growth while increasing business and leisure travel to the area. MGM Grand Detroit is owned by MGM MIRAGE and Partners Detroit, a group of local Detroit investors.
Of Detroit's three original casinos, MGM Grand Detroit is the first and only hotel and entertainment destination created as an entirely new venue – built from the ground up – to deliver an unrivaled guest experience. MGM Grand Detroit will feature 400 chic and stylish guest rooms, including nine rooftop VIP suites and 56 opulent corner suites. Guests will enjoy three signature restaurants by two of the world's preeminent celebrity chefs, Wolfgang Puck and Michael Mina. The WOLFGANG PUCK GRILLE will feature the legend's inventive California-style cuisine while Mina will introduce two new concepts to his culinary repertoire: SALTWATER, an opulent seafood dining experience; and Bourbon STEAK, which will deliver imaginative interpretations of traditional steakhouse favorites in a modern setting. The destination also will feature 24-hour in-room dining by Puck in addition to casual restaurants; lounges, including a relaxed lobby bar; high-energy nightlife; the only resort-style spa in the market; and 30,000 square feet of meeting and event space. Room reservations are now available via www.mgmgranddetroit.com or (888) 646-3387. "The October 2 opening of MGM Grand Detroit will signal a new era for downtown Detroit with matchless amenities and accommodations never before available in the Midwest," said George Boyer, MGM Grand Detroit President and COO. "The introduction of MGM Grand Detroit demonstrates delivery on our promise to create an unparalleled hotel and entertainment destination for our guests to enjoy, whether business travelers, international visitors or members of our own community. The opening of the destination also will create an additional 1,000 jobs, of which more than half will be Detroit residents.
MGM Grand Detroit will feature a private valet and entrance for its hotel guests. The lobby will envelop patrons in a modern yet tranquil atmosphere with grandiose 20-foot ceilings, a private "Living Room" with a stunning fireplace, and a dramatic backlit alabaster wall adornment with a cascading fountain. Featuring oversized ottomans and contemporary artwork, the Living Room will serve as a gathering place to relax, wait for friends and business associates, or make reservations and requests via the dedicated concierge.
For hotel patrons, MGM Grand Detroit will deliver the most indulgent guest rooms and suites in the state. Ranging from 510 to 2,225 square feet, guest accommodations will feature sophisticated interior design, deluxe pillow-top beds with high-thread-count linens, guest room showers with a peek-a-boo panel of opaque tangerine glass and unrivaled amenities. Advanced technological features will underscore the modern yet comfortable feel of the rooms and suites. When entering the room, the action of unlocking the door automatically will adjust the interior lighting in the space to a soft, warm glow; settings can be adjusted to five different levels of brightness. Telephones will serve as a "Butler" with color touch-screen technology that enables guests to access property information, schedule wake-up calls, order room service and connect to the Internet without picking up the phone. All rooms will be appointed with a 42-inch plasma television and an IPOD docking station.
This Casino is being promoted as Vegas in Detroit. I have never been to a bar in Vegas where I payed $10 for a martini to have in come in a plastic cup. Classless.
