After ten months of campaigning, anti-casino activists led by Patricia Murphy (pictured) have won their battle against the building of an enormous casino complex at the Sud-Ouest borough of Montreal. Murphy, who leads a religious organisation, claimed that a super casino would attract crime, sex work, loan sharking and other pulp fiction plot-lines to the area. Casino supporters claimed that the $1.2 billion investment would have made a welcome contribution to the area.
