New US Bid to Ban Online Gambling
Filed in archive Gambling General on June 15, 2005

Its a case of 'here we go again' in John Kyl's seeming one man quest to ban online gambling in the US.
For almost a decade, republican senator, John Kyl, has led the US case to bring in legislation to ban internet gaming and he's not giving up the fight. We're in round seven and counting, as he tries again this summer.
But despite continuous attempts of blocking electronic fund transfers for online gaming, the industry has become resilient and found ways around each hurdle.
Interestingly, in 1995 there were only 26 online casinos when Kyl first began his Crusade. Now there are more than 2000 and its bringing in more revenues than ever before.
The US horse-racing industry are desperate to be excluded from any legislation as the internet offers one of the only potential revenue growth in that $3 billion p/a sector.
The main difference this time however is that both congress and the White House are now republican controlled.
However, whatever happens in the US, its unlikely to put an end to internet gambling - all it will do is once again put the US on a backward footing as offshore countries continue to reap the benefits of the multi-billion dollar industry that keeps going from strength to strength
