New York State Considering Online Betting On Horse Races

Source:www.nyra.com

Here's some good news for fans of Thoroughbred and Harness racing in New York State.

The New York Racing Association is close to approving a system called, "mWager", which will allow bettors to access official handicapping data and place wagers via their cell phones.

This system, if approved, will certainly put a dent the underworld's "bookies", and may somehow pave the way for a return of all forms of Internet betting and gambling is a link to a page on the World Wide Web.

We can only hope but this move bodes well for fans of other forms of online gambling, particularly Poker, for which there is enormous interest in America.

Apparently the service will only be available to residents of New York State, but I'm really not certain of that. However, I can foresee out of state gamblers picking up cheap cell phones, and registering them at the addresses of family and friends who live in New York, and then placing their bets from wherever through these phones.

When New York initiated the first state lottery in the 1960's people from all over the country somehow managed to participate in it. When the other states realized that this revenue could be kept at home, it led to the establishment of state lotteries in all but 7 states, which ridiculously, includes my state of residence, Nevada, the gambling capital of the world.

I'd like to take a moment to introduce myself as your new editor for "The Gambling Weblog".
