You'd think some governments have way too much time on their hands. Clearly the authorities in Alberta, Canada seem to as they recently called monthly cribbage tournaments held by senior citizens as 'illegal gambling'
And why is it illegal? Because the players pay a small entrance charge to cover drinks and a cash prize of CA$100 – hardly an amount to set the sniffer dogs out.
Cribbage is an old card game, invented in the 17th century and played with a strange scorboard to place pegs – its popular in English pubs and obviously, with Canadians
The players are naturally amazed at the claims, but the government is adamant in its following of their 'laws' – however, clearly its not necessarily not at the top of their list. A spokesman for the commision stated;
"We have other more serious things to pursue. We would only continue an investigation if there were more complaints. It's just a warning right now."
And i'm sure a bunch of seniors are echoing these sentiments entirely – to leave them be and find some real criminals…
