Online Betting Boom In India Starts With Cricket

When India face their biggest rivals, neighbours Pakistan, cricket sites on the web see a tenfold increase in traffic. Not too surprising, but when this increase also includes a bet, its worth sitting up and taking note.

Despite being illegal in India, internet betting is still the preferred choice - largely because of anonymity. It also helps that the betting site is usually situated outside of India.

Using an Internation credit card transaction to place the bet is also illegal - but its almost impossible to stop

Is there a solution to this? "In such a case the internet service provider can act as a monitoring body and filter websites but one must take into consideration that there are a million such websites on the world wide web, which makes it impossible to keep a check on them,"
