Poker Site offers $100,000 to Rename Town
Filed in archive Poker on September 23, 2005

Those online poker sites are a wacky bunch.
Relative unknowns, pokershare.com, have decided to put themselves on the map - literally - by offering a small Kentucky hamlet (not even a village), Sharer, $100,000 to officially change its name to pokershare.com
Sharer has no city council, no post office and basically a large spot in the road - and its left its Butler County officials bemused - and possibly unamused. Butler County is a predominantly Conservative county with no alcohol and a lot of religion.
But is it just for the publicity? You betcha. Pokershare.com make no bones about it that they're doing this purely for publicity sake - they found the town whilst doing a search in google maps and thought the name was appropriate (Sharer meet Pokershare. Geddit?)
Well - even without a greenlight yet, pokershare.com certainly know how to start the publicity train rolling
