PokerPro and Carnival send retired Cop to WSOP
Filed in archive Poker on June 22, 2007
Monty Berger has achieved his dream. A retired New York City police officer and a September 11 responder, Monty sailed on the Carnival Legend on April 9, along with 50 other hopefuls, for a shot at a World Series seat. Monty showed great resiliency, battling through the huge field before reaching the final table. From there Monty weaved his way through the final 10 players, eventually taking down the tournament and with it claiming a $10,000 Seat at the 2007 WSOP in Las Vegas.
Monty Berger will take his skills to the grandest stage when he competes in the first round of the WSOP Main Event on July 8. The day before, Monty will be found at the PokerPro® booth at the WSOP Gaming Life Expo in the Rio All-Suites Hotel & Casino, where he will be joined by other competitors including Phil Laak and Antonio Esfandiari, challenging players in battles on PokerPro® Heads-Up™. "I can't thank Carnival and PokerPro® enough for this opportunity. To play in this tournament is the ultimate achievement for a poker player, and I hope to play as well as I did aboard the Carnival Legend!
