That's not a misprint, despite all the controversy in Maryland over slot machines, there are now some non-profit groups that claim they can't survive without them.
There's no doubt that Americans enjoy a bit of gambling from time to time, and slot machines are the most popular game of chance by a huge margin.
But not everyone has access to a casino, and many people would like to do something to help a worthy cause of their choice, while indulging themselves with a bit of slot action.
In Maryland many fraternal organizations, such as The Elks, are requesting approval for the use of slot machines to help raise much needed revenue.
So it appears that the County commissioners will have to take into consideration the positive effects that slot machines will have for their local charitable organizations.
It could well be that they will decide in favor of the machines so residents of Maryland who are fans of gambling spend their money in State rather than traveling elsewhere for their fun.
