South Africans Aren't So Interested in Gambling Anymore

Unlike the rest of the world, it seems as if the South Africans are tiring of gambling.
Latest research has shown that fewer South Africans are gambling than when gambling was developed between 1997 and 2002 - less than 1% of GDP and only 1.7% of total household expenditure.
South Africans spent 11.6 million Rand in 2005 with the majority in casinos. Whilst this is an increase on 2003, participation in some gambling has decreased significantly. Lottery play has declined from 71.3% in 2002 to 48.5% three years later. Visitors to casinos have also decreased. In 2001, 19.3% of respondants visited casinos. It was just 7.1% in 2005
Overall, South Africans who did not participate in any form of gambling increased from 43.2 percent in 2002 to 50.2 percent in 2005.
