Sunday NFL Playoff Picks

Sunday NFL Playoff Picks
So my Saturday NFL Picks are either going to make you money or lose you money (in the purely hypothetical sense, of course). Now let's take a look at Sunday's games, which are a bit tougher to pick, in my never-humble opinion.

Last year, the Seattle Seahawks were within one game of being the NFL Champions, losing in the Super Bowl to the Pittsburgh Steelers. This year, with injuries to QB Matt Hasselbecklinks and 2005 NFL MVP Shaun Alexander, the 'Hawks have looked considerably less Super. But the Bears are a tale of two QBs - Good Rex and Bad Rex. Good Rex probably won't win you a game, but he's not gonna lose it for you, either. Bad Rex will give away the farm, doing everything in his power to play himself out of a job.

So it depends on who's going to be less mediocre on Sunday. With Seattle an 8.5 point dog to the Bears on Bodog today, I'm betting on the Seaturkeys. It's hard for a team as defense-oriented at Chicago to beat anybody in the NFL by more than 8 points, and that's all we care about, that Seattle beats the spread. So I'm taking Seattle, but I'm leaving the over/under alone, because at 37 points, it's a good line for these teams.

Our late game on Sunday is what I think should really be the Super Bowl. The San Diego Super Chargers are the cream of the NFL this year, talent-wise, and the New England Patriots have the best coach working today in Bill Belichik and the league's finest QB in Tom Brady. That smells like a shootout to me, but with the line at 47, I'm laying the under on this one. 47 is a LOT of points for an NFL game, and neither one of these teams has any glaring defensive weaknesses.

But who's going to win? I have no idea, but since so many NFL playoff games are decided by a field goal or less, I think taking New England to cover the spread is a good bet. The Pats didn't win a fistful of Super Bowls by being a weak team, and I think anyone who looks at this as a blowout is gonna dump some money down the toilet. For the record, I think the Chargers will win, but the Pats will cover. I also think the Chargers will win the Super Bowl, so now is as good a time as any for those future bets.
