Top 10 Gambling Sportsmen

The Sunday Times have printed their top 10 sporting punters. That is, ten superstars of sport who have placed some pretty dodgy bets. Without further ado, lets have a look at who's on that list:

1. Wayne Rooney - currently in trouble over £700,000 of debt that may or may not be owed to a man who may or may not not have had a bookmakers license when he took the bets.

2. Tiger Woods - infamous 'hopelessness' at casino tables.

3. Michael Jordan - once lost $1.3million to a businessman on the golf course.

4. Paul Merson - reckons he lost over £7million to bookies.

5. Ty Cobb - sacked as Detroit Tigers coach over match-fixing allegations.

6. Pete Rose - banned from baseball for life for betting on his own team.

7. Hansie Cronje - Sth African cricketer asked his team to underperform to win with bookies.

8. Peter Francisco - Another Sth African, snooker this time, bet on opponent Jimmy White and lost 10-2.

9. Phil Mickelson - before 2000-1 season kicked off he predicted Baltimore Ravens would win Superbowl - they did and won him $560K

10. Dennis Lillee - Australian cricketer bet on England to win. Aussies lost but Lillee's 500/1 bet pays off.
