The Sunday Times have printed their top 10 sporting punters. That is, ten superstars of sport who have placed some pretty dodgy bets. Without further ado, lets have a look at who's on that list:
1. Wayne Rooney – currently in trouble over £700,000 of debt that may or may not be owed to a man who may or may not not have had a bookmakers license when he took the bets.
2. Tiger Woods – infamous 'hopelessness' at casino tables.
3. Michael Jordan – once lost $1.3million to a businessman on the golf course.
4. Paul Merson – reckons he lost over £7million to bookies.
5. Ty Cobb – sacked as Detroit Tigers coach over match-fixing allegations.
6. Pete Rose – banned from baseball for life for betting on his own team.
7. Hansie Cronje – Sth African cricketer asked his team to underperform to win with bookies.
8. Peter Francisco – Another Sth African, snooker this time, bet on opponent Jimmy White and lost 10-2.
9. Phil Mickelson – before 2000-1 season kicked off he predicted Baltimore Ravens would win Superbowl – they did and won him $560K
10. Dennis Lillee – Australian cricketer bet on England to win. Aussies lost but Lillee's 500/1 bet pays off.
