US Online Gambling Ban Wins the First Round
Filed in archive Gambling General on May 25, 2006
Its a $12 billion industry that some members of the US government doesn't seem to want any part of.
Bob Goodlatte won the first round in his mission to ban online gambling as the House Judiciary Committee voted by 25-11 to approve his "internet gambling Prohibition Act". This cleared the way for them to support the second part - Jim Leach's "Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act"
According to Goodlatte "I oppose gambling because I think it causes many, many problems in our society"
There's not much to say to that really except prohibition and nanny state mentality seems to be thriving among the hardliner bible belt of the US.
The next round is to take the bill to the House of Representative. A harder task, but this initial greenlight goes against an arguably more intelligent and mature option of full regulation and licensing.
