Winter Olympics - Latest Betting Odds

However, courtesy of Bodog.com there are some bets to be had - if you follow curling, slalom or figure skating.
However, probably the most obvious betting events are the ones for the most gold medals - and of course, the Ice Hockey.
Maybe unsurprisingly, Germany, with one of the largest teams present, are the even money favourites to win the most gold medals. Norway and the USA both follow close behind at 11/10 whilst the other countries languish way behind - only Russia at 10/1 offering a potential but unlikely longshot.
Michael Walchhofer is favourite to win the men's downhill at 2/1, but if American Bode Miller ever puts his money where his mouth is he could be good for a tempting but unpredictable 9/2
The Ice Hockey is the most interesting event. The Americans all but think they've won it and are currently 3/1 - that is, except for their closest rivals Canada - who are favourites at 11/10. However, don't forget the Czech Republic, second favourites at 5/2 and the Swedish at 4/1 could cause the Americans to rethink their invincibility.
Quick tip though. Look around before you bet! Winter sports are a rarity and there's value to be had. There's very few experts and the bookies are looking at World Cup results and have the same basic knowledge as the rest of us. A lot of the top Winter sportsmen and women may have been out for injury - or building up to the Olympics - and their true price could be a lot different to the bookies price. For instance, if you're looking for odds that don't favour the American team so much - and want a much wider spread of all the events, try William Hill where you'll find the US team at much longer odds - and the favourites more justified!
