Since a long time now, gambling in casinos has been illegal in MA, but if House Speaker and Senate President, amongst others, get their way then gambling would soon be legalised and part of the system as is in many a state already.
The bill for gambling that is being supported by these officials would license 3 gambling casinos in as many regions of Massachusetts and 1 slot machine only facility. The bill requires gambling investors to put in a minimum $500 million into a resort and submit a licensing fee of $85 million.
The attempt at legalised gambling comes after a similar proposal was disregarded last year. The major attraction is the job genration potential of the project, to the tune of 16,000 jobs, which is something that cannot be ignored during these times of rampant unemployment.
